James Maggs obtained his B.S. degree in accounting from Villanova University in 1986. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Maggs worked as a tax accountant with Arthur Anderson & Co. and Ernst and Young. He graduated from Seton Hall School of Law and was the Editor-in-Chief of the Constitutional Law Journal. Mr. Maggs was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in 1991 and has also been admitted to the United States District Court, District of New Jersey, United States District Court, District of Rhode Island, United States District Court, Northern District, Texas and the United States Court of Appeals, Third Circuit. Mr. Maggs established the Firm in 1995 and is the Firm's Managing Partner.
Mr. McDermott, partner at Maggs & McDermott, was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in 1983, the New York Bar in 1982, and is also admitted to the United States District Court, District of New Jersey, United States District Court, Northern District of Texas, and United States Court of Appeals, Third Circuit. Mr. McDermott attended University of St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland, Award of Honors, Classics; Allegheny College (B.A. English, Cum Laude, Alden Scholar) and Fordham University School of Law (J.D. 1982).
Mrs. Nadell concentrates her practice in the areas of healthcare, insurance, contract law and debt collection on behalf of medical providers as well as corporate clients. She also provides services to individual clients on a wide range of issues including corporate and general business matters, real estate transactions and municipal court matters. Prior to joining Maggs & McDermott in January 2014, Mrs. Nadell served as an Assistant District Attorney in Bronx County, New York for over six years where she investigated and prosecuted high level criminal matters. Mrs. Nadell is a graduate of Columbia University (B.A. 2004) and New York Law School (J.D. 2007). She is currently admitted to practice in both New Jersey and New York.
Ms. Guage graduated from Kean College of New Jersey in 1993, earning a B.A. in Political Science/Criminal Justice. In 1996, Ms. Guage graduated from Brookdale Community College earning an A.A.S. in the Paralegal Technology Program. In 2000, Ms. Guage received her J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. During her first year of law school at the Claude W. Pettit College of Law, she received the CALI Award for Excellence in Legal Research and Writing II. While completing her last two years of law school, Ms. Guage served as a law clerk to a general practice firm. Ms. Guage was admitted to the New Jersey State Bar Association in November, 2000, the Bar of the United States District Court, District of New Jersey, in December, 2000 and the New York State Bar Association in January, 2001. She is currently a member of the Hadyn Proctor Inn of Court. Ms. Guage has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in personal injury actions. Prior to joining the Maggs & McDermott, LLC, Ms. Guage worked for a firm handling complex insurance coverage litigation and high value personal injury defense files. She was also a former associate for a large insurance defense firm and primarily handled personal injury and automobile negligence matters. Ms. Guage volunteered in the free legal clinic in Union Beach, New Jersey for several months after SuperStorm Sandy. Ms. Guage also has experience arguing before the Appellate Division in the State of New Jersey. Currently, Ms. Guage is responsible for personal injury and workers’ compensation files.
Mr. Light graduated from Rutgers Law School in 2000 where he was the editor of the Rutgers Law Review. He interned for the Honorable John E. Sprizzo, U.S.D.J., in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York during law school before entering private practice in the insurance and commercial litigation department of a large law firm in Morristown, NJ. Mr. Light primarily represents individuals who have been seriously injured and health care providers that have not been properly reimbursed by insurance companies. He is currently admitted to practice in the New Jersey State and Federal Courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and the United States Court of Federal Claims.
Ms. Adornetto graduated summa cum laude from Stockton University, and cum laude from Seton Hall University School of Law. She began her legal career as judicial law clerk to the Honorable Joseph P. Quinn, J.S.C., in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Monmouth County. Since then, she has been engaged in private practice, handling complex civil and complex litigation matters throughout New Jersey. Ms. Adornetto devotes her practice to litigation. While Ms. Adornetto represents parties in various settings, she primarily assists individual and corporate claimants in such concentrations as personal injury, general liability (premises liability, defamation, dram shop, workplace incidents), contractual, professional malpractice, and product liability, as well as appeals in these practice areas. Ms. Adornetto routinely practices and appears before the Superior Court of New Jersey, the Superior Court of New Jersey Appellate Division, and the United States District Court, District of New Jersey. In addition to court appearances and trial-related work, Ms. Adornetto has participated in, and favorably resolved matters in countless mediations, arbitrations, and other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
